PaperStone is a beautiful and heavy-duty solid surface known for its performance, its warm touch, its contemporary appearance and its environmental sustainability. It is a composite made from recycled paper and proprietary petroleum-free phenolic resins made from raw materials like cashew nut shell liquid. Phenolic resin and paper composites have superior tensile, compression, impact and flexural strengths. They are very abrasion resistant, absorb very little water, and are the products of choice in applications requiring high fire resistance (it has a Class A fire rating). PaperStone is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and the Smartwood program of the Rainforest Alliance. It is the only architectural surface on the market today certified by these demanding third parties. Specifying PaperStone can earn up to five LEED points.
Paperstone can be used in interior horizontal applications such as counters for kitchens, window sills and door thresholds, structural applications, landscape components, furniture, table tops, rain screens and other manufactured products. It is resistant to staining in kitchen applications. It also works well in vertical applications such as toilet partitions, interior and exterior paneling, exterior cabinet work, and chair rail. The color of the finished panel is determined by the recycled paper content, the recycled paper type (e.g. old cardboard containers versus mixed office waste), the phenolic resin, and the pigments and dyes that are used.
Paperstone is available in three thicknesses, and starts as a 5' X 12' sheet. This allows for seamless large countertop areas. It's so dense that a 5' X 12' sheet of 1 1/4" thick Paperstone weighs nearly 600 pounds! You can buy Paperstone in smaller geometric increments of the full sheet, like 30” X 120”, 30” X 96” etc..
